DUXU

The KomunIKON team was invited to chair a session about visual languages in July 2021 at the DUXU conference (the 10TH INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON DESIGN, USER EXPERIENCE AND USABILITY): http://2021.hci.international/duxu

In this framework we will publish with Springer a paper on IKON with title "From Hieroglyphs to Emoji, to IKON: the search of the (perfect?) visual language".

In the paper we analyze how writing evolved from the expression of the meanings to the expression of the sounds. In modern times new projects like Emoji came back to semantic writings. We show some main characteristics of these ancient and modern systems, analyzing aspects that can be improved, and describing IKON , our new iconic language conceived as a new step in the evolution of visual languages. We discuss a case study about hair and gender, how these theoretical results were applied in some IKON icons, and a test to evaluate the comprehensibility of these icons through a tool called iconometer.

The HCI International 2021 Conference Proceedings will be published by Springer in a multi-volume set.

Papers will appear in volumes of the Lecture Notes in Computer Science (LNCS) and Lecture Notes in Artificial Intelligence (LNAI) series. Poster Extended Abstracts in the form of short papers will be published in the Communications in Computer and Information Science (CCIS) series.
